Safety and De-Escalation Staff — Jerrold Commons

General Purpose

Duties include searching guests for weapons or prohibited substances, de-escalation and conflict prevention, and keeping facilities safe, clean, and secure. Safety and De-escalation Staff is responsible for protecting the clients, employees, volunteers, and property of Coast House Shelter. Responsibilities include monitoring the property (perimeter, parking lot, and other areas, evicting trespassers, and writing reports detailing any occurrences during your shift.

Report to: Program Manager

Salary: $23 per hour

Primary Duties:

  • Patrolling and monitoring the property for the entire duration of your shift

  • Being visible regularly outside to discourage trespassing, and discourage clients from bringing extra belongings, discouraging clients from bringing drugs and alcohol on the property, and deter clients from bringing visitors to the property

  • Monitoring the entry and departure of employees, clients, vehicles, and visitors according to company protocols

  • Monitoring surveillance cameras to watch out for disruptions, suspicious, or criminal behavior

  • Providing detailed reports on daily activities and any incidents to management

  • Using provided communication devices including two-way radios in a clear and professional manner

  • Providing CPR and First Aid as needed

  • Keep an eye on vehicles parked on the property and verify with RSCs, Leads, or Case Managers, if a vehicle belongs to a resident

  • Calling the tow company to remove unauthorized vehicles from the property

  • Enforcing the rules of the program in a trauma informed manner

  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor

  • Adhering to post order protocols

  • Adhering to and enforcing “Good Neighbor Policy”

Education and Experience

  • CA Guard Card

  • CPR and First Aid Certificate

  • Must be excellent with de-escalation
