Shelter Monitor/Residential Services Coordinator (RSC) — Jerrold Commons

General Purpose

As a Shelter Monitor/RSC, duties include staying present in all assigned spaces, performing de-escalation, maintaining a safe and clean environment, performing light trash pick-up, serving food, effectively communicating with all guests and staff, maintain any appropriate data collection, performing wellness checks, and performing and recording perimeter checks.

Reports to: Supervisor/Shift Lead and Program Director

Salary: $25 per hour

Primary Duties:

  • Support clients; register, check-in, monitor, and assess behavior and overall well-being.

  • Monitor clients’ progress and well-being

  • Understand the systemic issues that affect low-income and marginalized people.

  • Ensure the property is secure at all times

  • Orient new arrivals to shelter protocols and policies

  • Providing crisis management for clients

  • Supporting client and facility needs

  • Fielding questions from clients and responding to requests

  • Completing Incident Reports as needed and submitting them to the Program Director and Site Director

  • Providing safety supervision to shelter residents

  • Overseeing meals and living space

  • Conducting intakes and discharges

  • Assist with food distribution

  • Always maintain a clean and sanitized living environment

  • Maintains supply list and communicates supply needs to the Program Manager

  • De-escalate hostile situations

  • Communicate client or maintenance needs with the Program Manager

  • Follow daily shelter checklist for the area/s you are supervising

  • Distributing and collecting client linens for laundering

  • Overnight RSCs are responsible for washing, folding, and storing linens

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Communication:

  • Attend staff meetings to ensure that client’s needs are well represented.

  • Completes daily log to communicate with other shelter workers and management.

  • Completes Incident Reports in a timely manner.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working in a shelter or other organization that works with the disenfranchised

Key Competencies:

  • Effective team player who is non-judgmental and honest

  • Proficient with PC

  • Typing and data entry

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Able to assist the team in identifying potential challenges and providing input to staff.

  • Understand the systemic issues that affect low-income marginalized people.

  • Able to observe and assess agitation levels to proactively diffuse potential aggressive situations.
