Supervisor/Shift Lead — Jerrold Commons
General Purpose
Oversees staff and operations during their assigned shifts to ensure smooth functioning and safety. Duties include monitoring client activities, enforcing shelter rules, responding to emergencies, and providing support to both clients and staff. Generated shift reports, managed supplies, and ensured compliance with shelter policies.
Reports to: Program Manager
Salary: $30 per hour
Primary Duties:
Support clients; register, check-in, monitor, and assess behavior and overall well-being.
Monitor clients’ progress and well-being
Ensure that the shift runs appropriately
Understand the systemic issues that affect low-income and marginalized people.
Manage onsite security to ensure the building is secure at all times
Orient new arrivals to shelter protocols and policies
Providing crisis management for clients
Supporting client and facility needs
Fielding questions from clients and responding to requests
Completing Incident Reports and editing reports completed by RSCs and security to ensure accuracy and submitting them to the Program Director
Providing safety supervision to shelter residents
Overseeing meals and living space
Conducting intakes and supervising move-ins and discharges
Assist with food distribution
Ensuring the site is a clean and sanitized living environment
Greet donors and volunteers and assist them with their needs
Assist with the organization and distribution of supplies and donations
Answer phones and assist callers
Maintains supply list and communicates supply needs to the Program Manager
De-escalate hostile situations
Answer site phone
Communicate client or maintenance needs with the Program Manager
Complete staff daily report
Have daily shift huddle
Collect and distribute radios to staff members on shift
Other duties as assigned by management
Swing Shift Responsibilities
Order and maintain inventory and supplies (cleaning, office, janitorial)
Ensure outside of the facility is clean and maintained daily
Collect and exchange linens from 10 – 11 rooms daily: place dirty linen in the laundry room (M-F)
Ensure that room inspections are completed (10 – 11 rooms daily M-F)
Overnight Shift Responsibilities
Complete and submit the Daily Bed Inventory Tracker by 7 am (cc’ing Program Director and COO)
Ensure RSC’s wash, fold, and store linens
Ensure the storage room is organized daily
Check inventory and email the Program Director and Swing Shift Lead of needed items
Ensure security is doing regular walks around the perimeter of the building and responding to any disturbances
Communication:
Attend staff meetings to ensure that clients' needs are well represented. Complete daily logs to communicate with other shelter workers and management. Complete incident Reports on time.
Education and Experience
Experience working in a shelter or other organization that works with the disenfranchised
Completes Guard Card Training, CPR and First Aid, and Custodial Technician Training
