A New Beginning: David’s Path to Permanent Housing

After years of living in a dilapidated RV, David arrived at WeHOPE's Jerrold Commons in April 2025, with determination in his heart. Just five months later, on September 24, he moved into his own permanent home - a transformation made possible through the partnership between David and his case manager, Jeevika Divakar.
A Two-Way Street
"Successful case management is a two-way street between the client and the case manager," Jeevika reflects. David exemplified this perfectly. He was charismatic, solutions-oriented, and committed to following the process. His enthusiasm was unmatched, and he met Jeevika every step of the way on this journey.
For Jeevika, who has worked in the homeless services industry for five years and joined WeHOPE in April 2025, David's case stood out. "He was always friendly, and a joy to be around," she shares.
Overcoming Barriers Together
The path wasn't without obstacles. David had experienced long-term homelessness and had worked with other well-intentioned providers before - but things hadn't aligned for him until now.
His RV had been home for years, and stepping away from it meant stepping into the unknown. The housing market was saturated, and David had specific needs.
Then came one of the highlights of David's journey - he got a puppy, Charlotte. "Caring for something else really gives our clients purpose," Jeevika explains. "Pets can be a beautiful part of the journey."
Showing Up and Moving Forward
David stayed engaged throughout the process, connecting with Jeevika through weekly check-ins and taking full advantage of activities offered at WeHOPE at The Commons. His presence and eagerness to hit each milestone—updating his ID, securing medical insurance - were inspirational.
"He was present, which was an incredible sign and probably why he was placed so quickly," Jeevika notes. "He hit each milestone with eagerness, and he was an inspiration to us all."
A Fresh Start
Today, David is settled in his new home, where he can pursue his passions in photography and videography. His story represents the heart of WeHOPE's mission: when dedicated support meets personal determination, transformation is possible.
WeHOPE celebrates this achievement, honoring both David's journey and Jeevika's compassionate guidance. Though it's bittersweet to see him leave WeHOPE at The Commons, David steps confidently into his new chapter - with Charlotte by his side.
