Meet Whitney Prather, Marketing and Communications Director

What's your title, and what does your job entail?

I'm Whitney Prather, the Director of Marketing and Communications at WeHOPE. I'm proud to lead our dynamic marketing department, where I work alongside two talented marketing professionals. Our team's primary focus is to shine a spotlight on the inspiring stories of our clients and to create meaningful opportunities for our community to engage with WeHOPE through volunteerism and donor partnerships.

In my role, I wear many hats. A typical day might involve crafting social media content, writing stories, or producing various marketing materials. However, what I truly love about my job is the collaborative nature of our work. We frequently partner with both internal teams and external organizations to effectively communicate the incredible impact WeHOPE is making in our community.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my position is supporting our staff in fulfilling their roles. By highlighting their efforts and the outcomes of their work, we demonstrate to our community the tangible difference WeHOPE is making in people's lives.

I'm passionate about using my skills in writing, social media management, and content production to amplify WeHOPE's mission. Every day, I'm inspired by the opportunity to share stories of hope, resilience, and positive change that our organization facilitates.

If I could share one thing about WeHOPE with our community, it would be this:

I’ll share three things that I want the community to know!

  1. WeHOPE is hosting our Seeds of Hope Benefit Luncheon on Thursday, October 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. If you’re a supporter of WeHOPE, we’d be very honored to have you attend! Tickets and sponsorship information is available here.

  2. Our founders have a heart of gold! Pastor Paul and Cheryl have this mission-driven edge about them, and it always inspires me (and our team) to stay focused on the vision of WeHOPE.

  3. And, most importantly, the real-life stories of lives changed through our services remind us daily of the profound impact we're making. When I hear firsthand that a person's life has moved in the right direction thanks to their case manager, or RSC I'm in awe. WeHOPE is rich in human connection, and I'm grateful to be part of such a vital cause.

What's your favorite thing about WeHOPE?

Gandhi encouraged us to "Be the change you wish to see in the world." WeHOPE is embodying this principle, and that's what I love most about our organization!

Please share any other details about your job at WeHOPE that you'd like our community to know.

I'm an extroverted introvert. For me, this means that in social situations, I'm extremely outgoing. However, when I'm in work mode—especially while writing—I tend to be more introverted. I thrive in quiet spaces with plenty of focus time. I’m very fortunate that in the field of communications and in my role at WeHOPE, this blend of traits is seen as an asset!

Currently watching: (The real question, is what am I not watching!) Emily in Paris on Netflix - I’m so happy the show is renewed for a fifth season because I can’t get enough. I’m also excited for the new season of Dancing with Stars.

Currently reading: Walk Through Fire: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Triumph. There are many reasons why this book is a bookshelf magnet - the chief one is that Sheila Johnson founded BET, a television network that was so paramount to seeing and hearing Black voices. The book has been a special treat, and Sheila is very inspiring.

What inspires you: Early in my career, I had a boss who was no-nonsense, pulled her weight in our department, and was truly excellent. That example of being responsible and tough, coupled with my own sense of self and compassion, has been a guiding force throughout my career and inspires me often.

Love language: Voice notes, calendar invites, and a daily planner!
